Waaaaay back when, when I was in the first grade, I accomplished something probably no other child has ever done!! I am pretty sure to this day no one else has done this either!! :o)
My class was watching a movie one afternoon. The lights had been turned off and most of the other kids attention was focused where it should be, on the movie. However, to my little friend and I, it was play time!! We sat in little desks and chairs. Our chairs had backs on them that had about a 15" space or so between the seat of the chair and where the back of the chair started.
My friend thought it would be awfully fun to lay down on her back on the chair seat, and then slide her head through the space on the back of the chair, and then slide her whole body through and come out the other side. We could do this undetected where we were sitting in the dark, or at least to a first grader, so we thought!
My friend went all the way through with absolutley no problem. I thought I would try. I put my head through, and then tried to slide my body through. Nothing. I tried to go back out the other way, not a budge. At that particular time, my teacher decided to call on me to see if I was paying attention. I was so embarassed I didn't say a word. I'm sure when she looked over to see where I WAS sitting, and no longer saw me, she had to wonder just where I had gone to.
She turned on the lights, and the whole class could see my predicament. I was stuck in my chair! I was laying with my head and part of my chest sticking out one side, and my abdomen, rear, and legs sticking out the other side! My teacher had to call another teacher to take the class outside while they figured out how to get me out of the chair. They had me wiggle, and they pulled me, and I could not get out.
They finally had to call the school custodian in with a hacksaw. He thought it was a rather funny situation and started telling me he was going to saw me in half like they do on the magic shows. I of course, who was only six, was horrified and thought he was serious and started wailing pretty loud. I'm pretty sure my teachers could have killed him for saying that to me. I had to lay there while I was literally sawed out of the chair. He cut all the way down through the plastic backing, and then I was able to get out.
After my terrifying ordeal I did get to go to the teachers lounge and have a coke with the teachers. I can't even begin to imagine what they said to my mother when they called her!! I can still picture that classroom and the teacher calling on me plain as day!!
I still feel pretty certain that the title of having been sawed out of chair in school still only belongs to me, and I am proud of it :)
Just for the sake of saying it, this story occurred about 4 years ago!!
My daughter Jackie and I loooove to go shopping. It's no big stretch of the imagination to think that we were out shopping the day before Jessica's birthday. We were at the mall in Tyler, and we were doing what we do best!! We went in and out of so many stores just window shopping and occassionally buying something we like!
We went into one of our favorite stores, Kirklands. It's really hard to not buy something every time we go in there!! There in one of the display barrels were some throw pillows with cute little sayings on them. The moment I saw one in particular, I knew I had to get it for Jessica as an additional birthday present. When we got home, I also wrote this saying allllll across the envelope to her birthday card!! I am not telling you what it said until the end of the story :)
The day proceeded as normal, and the next day when Jessica got up she said "Mom, I had the craziest dream last night!!"
She said "I was in a store, like Gander Mountain, and I asked to look at their guns". "She said we looked at the ammo, and I held a bunch of guns, and then I started shooting stuff off the walls!!" "I was like a wild woman, and nobody minded that I was doing that" She said, it was sooooo crazy I can't believe I would do something like that in a dream. Must have been really mad!!
I started laughing hysterically and had to give her the extra birthday present early!!
The pillow I got her says "May All Your Dreams Come True"
I still laugh every time I see that pillow in her room!!
I think it's only appropriate that I start my blogging journey with the story about why I chose to name my blog site, FLAMINGTACOSHELLS.....there is a story behind that!!
My husband used to be a ranch manager. We had several ranch hands that worked for us. I chose to cook the noon meal for these guys, and they would always show up dirty and hungry and sitting in my living room waiting to eat. We always had lots of fun cutting up and laughing together every day.
On the day of this story, I chose to cook them some tacos. I don't know about everyone else, but I can't stand to just use the taco shells straight out of the package. I always take them out and stick them in the oven to get them crispy again. On this day, I took them out, put them on a cookie sheet, and put them in the oven on broil. I was always really good about checking them every few seconds to make sure they were ok.
However, on this particular day, I FORGOT!! When I looked in at them, they were flaming. I grabbed my oven mitt and snatched them out of the oven. I thought to myself, I will dump them in the kitchen sink. As I tilted them towards the sink, the flames shot up and for some reason I was afraid that I would catch my wallpaper on fire.
I turned and proceeded towards the front door walking really quickly through the living room, past all the seated cowboys watching in amusement, towards the door. As I got to the middle of the living room, carrying my cookie sheet of flaming taco shells, the flames shot towards me. I tilted the cookie sheet away from me, and THE TACO SHELLS FELL OFF IN TO THE MIDDLE OF MY LIVING ROOM FLOOR!!
At this point, my living room carpet caught on fire. Seriously. The guys jumped up and luckily of course they were all wearing boots and stomped out the fire. I do believe I am probably the only person ever to have caught their living room carpet on fire with flaming taco shells. :o)
I have no idea what they ended up eating that day, but I can guarantee it wasn't tacos!!
